Training for bike racing is hard enough. When you add travel, it can feel overwhelming and near impossible. If done right, travel can be perfectly plan to include your rest days and to recharge. It’s pretty difficult to get some of the folks I work with to take a break, so in those cases this travel can be a great tool to get off the bike and work on core/all body fitness.
Work or family travel can be crafted into a plan to get those critical rest days and to come back stronger. However, unplanned or unstructured training around travel can create a lot of unneeded stress and a lot of loss of fitness. Here are a couple of other thoughts on this topic:
